Healthy Fast Food Recipes

Fast food can be healthy food! In addition to the Quick Cook recipes in the Trim Kitchen Cookbook, our Fast Foods section presents some traditional favourites like fish and chips that are delicious, fun and easy -as well as being lower in fat than their traditional counterparts.

Make sure you always have a meal in the freezer. It takes very little extra time to double recipes, so you can freeze the remainder and always have a meal ready in minutes. Make up the week’s supply of school sandwiches and freeze. Most of the sandwich fillings in this cookbook are suitable for freezing.

Soups also make an ideal choice for fast food. Make a large pot (see soup section) and freeze in individual portions. Empty yoghurt jars are ideal for this purpose.

Make pasta and low-fat sauces your fast food choice when you need a meal in a hurry. A meal of pasta, “Provisto Sugo” sauce and a green salad takes less than 10 minutes to prepare. Being prepared, with food in the freezer, fridge or pantry ready to use is one of the “secrets” healthy people have in place all the time!

Use the following recipes to make easy “takeaway food” at home, which the whole family will enjoy! Our healthy versions of pizza, hamburgers and fish and chips are ready in less time than getting in the car and going out for takeaway, at around 1/3 the cost!
