The B vitamins have much in common, they act as part of coenzymes, in that they combine with an inactive protein to form an active enzyme.  The B group vitamins are intimately involved in metabolism - the interconversion of CHO's, proteins and fats.  The amounts of each vitamin required are different and for some are directly related to energy expenditure.
